Our Year 5 residential visit to Willersley Castle was a truly memorable experience for all involved. Blessed with glorious sunshine throughout the week, the children embraced every moment of their adventure with enthusiasm and positivity. The setting provided the perfect backdrop for a wide range of exciting activities, allowing the children to step outside their comfort zones and try something new.

During the week, the children took part in a variety of challenges including fencing, climbing, glass sledging and canoeing. Each activity encouraged them to develop new skills, build confidence and support one another. It was wonderful to see so many of our pupils demonstrating determination and courage as they tackled each task, often surprising themselves with what they could achieve.

We were incredibly proud of how consistently the children demonstrated our school values of kindness, respect, responsibility and resilience. Their behaviour was exemplary throughout the visit and staff at the centre were quick to praise their attitude and conduct. They represented our school superbly and should feel very proud of themselves. It was, without doubt, a fantastic week that will be remembered for a long time to come.

We are so proud of the fantastic progress the children have continued to make this Spring term. They have settled confidently into routines and continue to show growing independence and enthusiasm for learning. It has been a joy to see their confidence flourish.

This term, our topic Superheroes has truly captured the children’s imaginations. We have been learning about real-life superheroes and the important roles they play in helping others. A special highlight was a visit from Zap the Cat, who has been helping us with our learning and keeping the children engaged and excited throughout the term.

Our role play area has been a big success, with the children enjoying pretending to be doctors and caring for patients. We were very lucky to have a visit from a paramedic, who taught us all about their role. The children loved exploring the ambulance, learning about the equipment used, and asking lots of thoughtful questions.

In English, we have been focusing on the story Supertato. The children have enjoyed learning new vocabulary through the character of Grandma Fantastic and have been writing about different parts of the story, alongside drawing the characters. There was great excitement each day as a new part of the story appeared on the board! We are very proud of how much their writing has progressed, with children showing increasing confidence in their ideas and sentence writing.

Muddy Mondays have continued to be a highlight of our week. With the arrival of slightly warmer weather, the children have been learning all about spring, becoming “spring detectives” as they explored changes in the environment and enjoyed being outdoors.

In Science, we have been learning about our bodies and our senses. The children particularly enjoyed our senses walk, where we focused on our sense of sight, as well as a tasting session to explore our sense of taste.

In History, we stepped back in time to learn about a real life superhero from the past, Florence Nightingale. The children were fascinated to learn what hospitals were like in the past and why she is remembered today. They showed a great understanding of how she helped wounded soldiers and improved hospital conditions.

Our Mother’s Day morning was a wonderful success—thank you to everyone who was able to attend. The children thoroughly enjoyed sharing their writing about why they love their mummy, watching adults guess which portrait was theirs, and planting a seed to take home and grow. They were also very proud to share the cakes they had made.

In Design and Technology, the children have been designing their own superheroes and bringing them to life through junk modelling. They showed great creativity and perseverance as they built and adapted their designs.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We look forward to an exciting Summer term ahead, with lots more learning and fun to come.

What a fantastic term it has been in Daisy Class!

In History, we have loved learning all about the Great Fire of London. The children have learnt where and how the fire started, how it spread over several days, and how people responded, including King Charles II and the Lord Mayor. We also explored who Samuel Pepys was and why his diary is so important in helping us understand what happened. The children were particularly interested in how people tried to put the fire out and the changes that were made afterwards to prevent it happening again. They showed great enthusiasm for this topic, even bringing in books from home to share their knowledge. One child also visited the Monument in London recently and shared photos with the class, which was wonderful to see. We are looking forward to welcoming Northants Fire and Rescue next term, where the children will be able to share everything they have learnt.

World Book Day was a real highlight this term. The children loved dressing up as a range of different characters and sharing their favourite books. We explored the story 'When Dad’s Hair Took Off', which the children found very funny. They enjoyed creating their own versions of the story, thinking about a character who had lost something important to them. The children also produced some fantastic artwork inspired by the book.

In Science, we have been learning about plants. We closely observed a range of seeds and grouped them in different ways such as their size and colour. We also planted sunflowers and have enjoyed watching them grow over the past few weeks. Recently, we carried out an experiment with cress to investigate what plants need to grow. The cress kept in the fridge, in the dark and without water did not grow well, which helped us understand how important light, warmth and water are for healthy plants.

In Computing, we have been learning how to use tally charts and create digital pictograms. The children came up with their own questions, collected data and recorded it using tally charts before presenting it clearly as pictograms. They enjoyed seeing their results visually and comparing different sets of data.

Art has also been highlight of this term. Our topic was land art, and the children loved being creative outdoors. They used natural materials to create sculptures, self-portraits and pictures of animals using sticks, leaves, stones and even mud! It has been lovely to see some children continuing this creativity during their break times too.

What a brilliant term it has been. Thank you for your continued support.

Have a lovely Easter!

Primrose Class have had a wonderfully busy and productive term. One of the highlights was our class assembly. We are sure you will agree that they did us proud as they confidently shared their learning. They continue to impress us every week with their enthusiasm, effort, and positive attitudes.

In English, the children explored instructional writing through the text How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth. They learned how to structure clear and engaging instructions before applying these skills in their own independent writing, where they chose their own animals. The results were fantastic, showing great creativity and understanding. We then moved on to a poetry unit, where the class developed their use of literary techniques such as similes, onomatopoeia, powerful verbs, and alliteration. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow.

In Maths, we have continued focusing on multiplication and division. The children have made great progress and are becoming increasingly confident when tackling more challenging calculations, particularly when using practical resources and equipment to support their understanding. All children have now received their TT Rockstars login details, and we strongly encourage daily practice at home to further develop their fluency and recall of times tables.

Our science topic this term has been Plants. The children have thoroughly enjoyed growing their own class plants and measuring root growth each week, allowing them to observe changes over time. They have also taken part in a range of engaging experiments to deepen their understanding of the functions of roots, stems, and leaves. Their ability to recall and apply their scientific knowledge during lessons continues to be impressive.

In History, we have been learning about the significant individual Marie Curie. The children explored her life, achievements, and the impact of her discoveries. We encourage you to ask your child what they can remember about her and why she is such an important figure in history.

In P.E., the class has participated in a variety of sports, developing their teamwork and physical skills. One of the standout favourites this term has been hockey, which the children particularly enjoyed.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support this term. We cannot believe how quickly the year is progressing as we head into the Summer Term, and we are excited for all the learning and experiences still to come.

Year 4 have continued to excel in their learning this term. They have really embraced their creative sides and shown enthusiasm and teamwork across the whole curriculum.

In English, the children have explored the powerful poem Still I Rise by Maya Angelou. They discussed its themes of overcoming bullying, resilience and self-belief before writing their own inspiring versions focused on friendship. The children produced thoughtful and expressive poems, celebrating kindness, support and the importance of standing together.

In Science, the class have been investigating electrical circuits. They have learned how to build simple circuits using components such as wires, bulbs, buzzers and batteries, and developed a clear understanding of how electricity flows. The children particularly showed resilience and perseverance whilst experimenting and problem-solving, especially if their circuits didn’t work as expected.

This learning was brought to life in Design and Technology, where children applied their knowledge to design and create their own torches. They carefully researched existing products, planned their designs and selected appropriate shapes, designs and materials before constructing their final pieces. It was wonderful to see their creativity and perseverance, and the finished torches were both practical and impressive!

In PE, Year 4 have been working hard to master skills across a range of multi-sports, including basketball, rugby and hockey. They have developed their teamwork, coordination and game strategies, showing great sportsmanship and determination.

Congratulations on another successful term of learning Year 4, I am very proud of you!

Spring Term 2 has been a memorable and rewarding half term for Orchid Class, with the standout highlight being our residential trip to Willersley Castle. The children showed incredible bravery, resilience and independence throughout the trip, taking on new challenges with enthusiasm and supporting one another every step of the way. We were especially proud of the kindness they showed each other and the way they represented the school so beautifully — they were a credit to themselves and their families. We also enjoyed celebrating World Book Day, with children embracing the occasion enthusiastically and sharing their love of reading through costumes, book talk and class activities.

Back in the classroom, English has been full of imagination and creativity through our work on The Nowhere Emporium. Inspired by the mysterious world of the story, the children wrote their own narratives about magical books, with many pieces showing real flair, originality and developing confidence as writers. It has been wonderful to see how much writing has improved across the year, particularly in presentation and handwriting. In Maths, we have built on our fractions learning by exploring decimals and percentages, using lots of practical resources to help make links clear and strengthen understanding. The children are becoming much more confident and increasingly willing to explain their reasoning.

Science lessons have been wonderfully hands-on as we explored reproduction in plants, dissecting flowers and learning about both sexual and asexual reproduction. In History, we stepped back into Anglo-Saxon Britain, examining extracts from the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle and using drama to imagine life as different villagers, including thanes, farmers and guards. Computing focused on databases, where children compared paper and digital systems and enjoyed exploring real examples, including the Titanic passenger list. In PE, netball has developed teamwork, determination and some very tricky footwork, with pupils improving their passing through mini games and match play. French lessons introduced currency and using money, while in Music we explored rap through singing and glockenspiel playing — with Will Smith proving a particular class favourite!

It is hard to believe how quickly the year is moving along now, and as we head towards the summer term, Orchid class would like to wish everyone a very happy and restful Easter break.

This term has been full of curiosity, creativity and fantastic collaboration across the class. It has been lovely to see pupils engaging so thoughtfully with their learning across all subjects.

In Science, pupils explored living things and their habitats, focusing on how animals and plants adapt to survive in different environments. We studied examples such as polar bears, chameleons and cacti, thinking carefully about how their features help them thrive. The class were particularly fascinated by Charles Darwin and his work on the Galápagos Islands, learning how finches’ beaks adapted over time depending on their environment. Pupils made great links between adaptation, survival and evolution.

In Geography, we developed our understanding of the UK, learning how it is divided into regions and exploring the geography of Wales in more detail. Pupils labelled counties, compared human and physical geography, and built their map skills by using Ordnance Survey maps to identify key features. We also explored the concept of scale and how maps represent real-world distances.

In Art, pupils experimented with a range of painting techniques, including gradient wash, flat wash and using thickened paint. They analysed artwork using key artistic vocabulary such as line, form and texture, showing increasing confidence in discussing and evaluating creative work.

In PSHE, we focused on health and wellbeing, exploring practical ways to stay physically and mentally healthy. Pupils also took part in a fantastic workshop delivered by the NHS Mental Health Support Team, where they discussed body image, self-esteem and strategies to promote positive mental health - a really valuable and reflective session.

In RE, pupils explored the enquiry question: “Is Christianity still a strong religion 2000 years after Jesus was on Earth?” They considered different viewpoints, looking at how Christianity is practised around the world today and discussing what makes a religion influential or significant in modern society. Pupils engaged in thoughtful discussions, showing respect for different beliefs and perspectives.

In English, pupils wrote detailed non-chronological reports linked to our Crime and Punishment topic. They worked hard to organise information clearly, use formal language and apply a range of grammatical features to inform the reader effectively.

In Maths, we focused on area, learning how to calculate the area of triangles and parallelograms. Pupils showed great perseverance when applying these skills to a range of problem-solving questions and reasoning tasks.

Overall, this has been a thoughtful and productive half-term, with pupils demonstrating resilience, teamwork and a real pride in their learning. It has been fantastic to see their confidence continue to grow across the curriculum.

This month, we encourage our school community to take small, meaningful steps to support their wellbeing, whether that’s spending time outdoors, connecting with loved ones, or simply allowing yourself a quiet moment of reflection. However you spend the time away from school, may the holiday bring you a sense of hope, balance, and renewed energy for the weeks ahead.
